GLOSSARY

Understand the terms first.

Citizenship, residence, funding and tax: foundational reading for your consultation.

Core concepts

Citizenship by investment ↗

A route to apply for citizenship through an eligible investment or contribution under a country’s framework. Investment does not replace eligibility checks, due diligence or an authority’s decision.

Golden visa ↗

A common label for investment-linked residence schemes. Rights depend on jurisdiction and category; residence must not be confused with citizenship or unrestricted permission to work.

Permanent residence ↗

An immigration status defined by local rules, maintenance duties and document requirements. “Permanent” does not remove all obligations or mean automatic citizenship.

Due diligence ↗

A process for examining identity, background, funding and supporting evidence. Applications, transactions and institutions have different standards; preparing documents does not mean a review has been passed.

Source of funds ↗

Explains the origin of the specific money used for an application or transaction and its path to the paying account. Evidence should connect income or transactions with relevant records and bank movements.

Source of wealth ↗

Explains how overall wealth accumulated over time, such as through employment, business ownership, investments or inheritance. This is broader than identifying the account used for one payment.

Tax residence ↗

A status determined by applicable tax law and potentially relevant treaties. Nationality, visas, property ownership and tax residence require separate analysis; a residence card alone is not a conclusion.
