US PROTECTION GUIDE
US asylum: process & preparation
Understand protected grounds, location and filing deadlines, then review the case with a suitably qualified US legal professional.

Protected grounds
Asylum concerns persecution or fear of persecution linked to race, religion, nationality, membership of a particular social group or political opinion. Economic hardship or dissatisfaction alone is not a protected ground.
Location & deadlines
USAGov states that asylum applicants must be in the US and generally file Form I-589 within one year of arrival. Seek prompt qualified review of deadlines, possible exceptions, existing proceedings and available relief.
Facts & evidence
Begin with an accurate chronology of events, dates, locations and people involved. Supporting material may include police records, communications or medical records, where available. In an initial site enquiry, describe the service needed without sending sensitive persecution details or identity documents through the general form.
Frequently asked questions
Is asylum an investment or guaranteed Green Card route?
No. Asylum is assessed on protection needs and legal criteria; it cannot be purchased or guaranteed. Filing, permission to work, asylum approval and a later permanent-residence application are separate matters.
